I have no goal or desire to ever be U.S. President, and I’m sure I would hate it. But I do think I would enjoy choosing agency heads for a president. So as a fun exercise, I thought about who I would appoint/nominate if I were in charge. The point is to nominate people who would be effective, passionate, rational leaders who are also unconventional thinkers who would jumpstart our economy and heal our civic fabric. Here’s what I got:
Dept of Education - Greg Lukianoff
NIH- Silvana Konermann
HUD - Jerusalem Demsas
NRC- Adam Stein (at the Breakthrough Institute)
FAA - Eli Dourado
SSA - Jennifer Pahlka
CFTC- Katherine Boyle
SEC - Bill Gurley
DOI (or Bureau of Land Management, which is part of DOI) - Alex Tabarrok
DOL - Caleb Watney (or Alex Tabarrok, a labor economist)
NSF - Nat Friedman
HHS- Dr. Benjamin Hippen
SBA- James Pethokoukis
DOD - Palmer Luckey (focused on future wars, not past wars)
Commerce- Marc Andreesen (or Ashton Kutcher or Howard Schultz)
Treasury - Jamie Dimon
EPA - Arnold Schwarzenegger
AG - Orin Kerr
Not sure about the following, but tentatively:
GSA: Ursula Burns
FTC: David Sacks
DOT: Matt Yglesias
FDA: David Sinclair
US Trade Representative: Ryan Petersen
